By default, the QL-820NWB must be powered on by manually pressing the power button. If you have set up your printer as per our guide Brother QL-820NWB Badge Printer Setup you have automatically disabled the "Auto Power Off" function.

An additional function is also available to automatically turn the printer on once power is restored, say after a blackout. To enable this feature you either need to connect the printer to a Mac or PC for a one-time settings change or connect your printer over WiFi and browse to the printer's IP address to access the Web Configuration Utility.

Important:

Although "Auto Power On" or "Power On When Plugged in" is set to On in the Printer Setting Tool or web configuration utility, the printer may not turn on immediately when power is restored.

Due to the energy-saving design of the circuits, the printer requires some time before it turns on automatically after you plug the printer in again soon after unplugging it.

QL-820NWB/QL-820NWBc
USA / 100V Power Countries:

The printer could take in excess of 35 seconds to turn on after re-plugging it.

AU/EU / 200v Power Countries:

The printer could take in excess of 75 seconds to turn on after re-plugging it.

Use the Web Configuration Utility

(You can only use this method if your printer is connected to your WiFi network or iPad Hotspot WiFi network)

  1. Locate your printer's IP Address: What’s my Brother Printer’s IP Address?

  2. On your iPad or Computer which is on the same WiFi network or can access the network the printer is on open a web browser and navigate to the IP address. Enter the IP address as if you were trying to access Google.com. In the example below the IP address is 10.0.0.138

  3. The printer web configuration utility will be displayed:
