We've released an update to our contact detail setting allowing site and team admins to configure email and mobile on check-in requirements, by visitor type. Different visitor types have varying requirements. For example, staff members might not need to provide any contact details, whereas contractors might need both for compliance reasons.

Please note: This setting is only available to sites on Medium+ plans. If you're interested in upgrading to use this feature, please reach out to our support team.

Where to find contact detail requirement settings

  1. Navigate to the Sine dashboard

  2. Select Locations from the side menu

  3. Choose your site you’d like to make these changes on

  4. Select passes from the left menu

  5. Find ‘Contact details required settings’

Understanding the settings

The contact detail requirement setting is structured in three main sections: Contact details not required, email required and mobile required.

Contact details required

This is the primary setting in site settings that controls if contact details are required at all at your site.

  • When enabled: Visitors must provide at least one contact detail (email or mobile)

  • When disabled: All contact details become optional

Once you click into the advanced setting, you will find an option to remove visitor types from this requirement. For example, your site may require all visitor types to enter either a mobile or email, but building contractors do not need to enter any.

  • Excluding a visitor type: All contact details become optional

Please note: If no contact details are provided during check-in, visitors won't receive a copy of their visit and cannot check out using the iPad kiosk. They can only be checked out automatically or by staff using the dashboard.

Email required

Control email address collection with two settings:

  • Email required: Require an email address to check in

  • Email not mandatory: Selected visitor types do not need to provide an email

For example, your site may require an email address from all visitor types, but Production Staff do not need to enter an email - so you remove that visitor type from this setting.

Mobile required

Control mobile number collection with two settings (in same way you controlled the email requirement):

  • Mobile required: Require a mobile number to check in

  • Mobile not mandatory: Selected visitor types do not need to provide a mobile number

For example, your site may require mobile numbers from all visitors, but Executive guests don't like to share their mobile number, so their visitor type are excluded from this requirement.

Frequently asked questions

Q: What happens if a visitor type is excluded from both email and mobile requirements?

A: They would be required to enter either an email or mobile to check in. As they are excluded from both email and mobile requirements, they revert to the base requirement, which is Contact details required.
